Summary: Music has always been a part in Togo culture. This music is passed down from mothers to her children by the mothers humming it while they do housework. Music is being taught in schools and universaities starting in 1975 because they believed it was important to develop a sense of discipline in a rhythmical sense. Except instruments and songs are not taught in schools. The stuff taught in schools are just rhythms and certain songs they need to know.
My thoughts/emotions/observations: I also think it is very important to teach kids music in schools because then they get the jist of it and know what rhythms are. In elementary school we were taught music and we would sing and I enjoyed it, so it's a fun thing to practice as it is. But, I think they should offer instruments to be learned because some kids would like to learn that except it isn't available.
Culture of the country: This ties into the culture of Togo because if they are teaching it in schools and having children learn hymns at home. If they are teaching it in schools it shows that it is very important to the country. The kids are learning it in the school and at home so when they have children they pass the culture on and will go for many generations. The music in Togo has always been a part of culture and they expect it to continue that way because it's very important to them.
